District Announcements

  • Parent/Student Guidelines for
    Student Engagement Day for Monday,

    February 18th (President’s Day):

     

    • Chromebook assignments (for Jr. Sr. HS students) or Packet

    work (Elementary students) must be completed on the Student Engagement Day and turned in by the class time of the next day.

     

    • Elementary students - Elementary teachers will send home packets for elementary students to complete. If there are problems on the Student Engagement Day, Elementary Parents must make contact with the teacher via Email/Class Dojo if possible. If packet is lost, contact must be made during the Student Engagement Day.  Students will then have one day to make up the work.
    • Elementary students will be counted “present” for the Student Engagement Day if the work is turned in the next day school is in session.
    • Junior - Senior HS students - Teachers will post class work in Google Classroom by 9 AM Monday, February 18th. If making contact on the Student Engagement Day is not possible for JH/HS Students, then parents must write a note that needs to be brought in the next day stating what the issue was. Students will then have one day to make up the work. If turned in after that day, the Late Work policy will go into effect.
    • If work is not done by the stated day, then the Late Policy will take effect.  
    • JH/HS Students must log on by 11 AM and check into your first class of the day to be counted as “present” for attendance.

    District Grading Scale Clairification

    Clarification is necessary in regards to the change in grading scale. Per the 2018-2019 Junior/Senior High Student Handbook, page 41, the grading scale is now a 10 point scale and includes + and – marks. Further clarification was necessary and approved at the November board meeting.
    Grading Scale and Quality Points (used to calculate the GPA):

    The grading system (6 – 12) is based on a 4-point scale. Letter grades will be recorded with + or – (plus or minus) marks on the report card, but will be converted to the numeric value for the purpose of calculating the grade-point average, honor roll, and class ranking. INCOMPLETES must be made up within five days of the end of the grading period or the grade shall be recorded as “F” and no credit will be issued. Appeals to the principal for time extensions may result in no more than an additional five days for a total of ten days.

  • District-Wide Early Dismissal Every 2nd & 4th Wednesday of the School Year

    Beginning August of 2018, the Donovan Community Unit School District will dismiss students every 2nd & 4th Wednesday of the month to allow all staff time for district trainings, staff meetings and professional development.
    The Elementary school will dismiss at 1:22 and the Jr/Sr high school will dismiss at 1:30 on these days.

  • School Closings Information

    In the event of a school closing for inclement weather or in case of an emergency, the Donovan School District will utilize the One Call Now automated telephone alert system to contact parents via a phone call or text to inform parents of school closings information as soon as possible.
    Listen to WGFA radio (94.1 FM), WVLI radio (92.7 FM or 101.7) or WKAN radio (1320 AM) to announce school closings as they occur. 

    Parents: Please DO NOT call the school for school closings information.
